TUCSON KARATE TOURNAMENT
This event is OPEN to ALL YCOA Karate students in Phoenix and in Tucson. The events are very easy & your instructor will show you exactly what to do in class. Each event will also be explained in detail at the Tournament. Events will be split according to age, size and/or belt rank depending on the event. It’s a great experience for all students! Special demonstrations will be given during the registration period! Definitely a fun day of karate NOT to be missed!
· TROPHIES, AND OLYMPIC-STYLE MEDALS AWARDED.
· ALL contestants will be given an award in each event they participate in!
· ALL CONTESTANTS WILL BE AWARDED A PARTICIPATION TROPHY!

PLEASE NOTE: Spectator Fee: $2.00 per person. Children age 12 and under are FREE!
1. STRONGEST PUNCH: Contestants will have three chances to punch a “Meter” bag that measures their power. Use any hand strike taught in class. Only hand strikes will be allowed – no elbow strikes.
2. STRONGEST KICK: Contestants will have three chances to kick a meter bag. Use any kick taught in class. You will have up to five feet of distance from the bag. Only foot techniques allowed – no knee kicks. No Shoes Allowed.
3. FASTEST FIST: Contestants in each age group will have three chances to strike a “meter” bag that measures their reaction speed. Use any hand strike taught in class.
4. FASTEST KICK: Contestants in each age group will have three chances to strike a “meter” bag that measures their reaction speed. Use any kick strike taught in class. Only foot techniques allowed – no knee kicks. No Shoes Allowed.
5. ESCAPE DRILL: Contestants will be timed individually and “break free” from four different “stranger dangers” applying different grabs: 1) Single-hand grab 2) Double-hand grab 3) Front choke 4) Rear choke. Be sure you use the “proper” release technique learned in class to break free from each grab. The contestants who use the proper techniques and break free the “quickest” are the winners. Blue and above will additionally be striking shields during this event. Your instructor will give you the details in class!
6. WALK WITH DANGER: Open to students with white through purple belts only. You will proceed one at a time towards the judges & have 15 seconds to “fight off” imaginary attackers. Judged on: 1) Ki-eye (yell) 2) Variety (use lots of different techniques) 3) Difficulty 4) Power & snap 5) Focus (really ham it up!)
7. KATA: Open to green belt & above students only. Do any kata learned in class—judged same as Walk with Danger; will be split according to age AND belt color.
8. STAFF / WEAPONS KATA: Open to blue belt & and above students only. Judged same as Walk with Danger.
9. SPARRING: Open to green belt & above students only, for those who participate in “sparring” class. This event is split according to age AND belt.
Please Note: STUDENTS MUST WEAR THEIR OWN CHEST GEAR, HEAD GEAR, HAND PADS, FOOTPADS, MOUTH GUARD & CUP.
Students can either register online prior to the event or at the event the day of.

Young Champions is very excited to announce the dates for our Fall 2008 Pro All Star and Elite Team Stunting Clinic. This is our REQUIRED annual stunting clinic designed to prepare students for the upcoming season in regards to stunting and safety. We are officially unified with our affiliates across the country, and every year changes are made to competition and stunting requirements and guidelines. Our stunting clinic not only reviews these changes but also reinforces stunting safety!
Please Note: Students who wish to stunt during the Fall 2008 season must attend the stunting clinic prior to performing any stunts at class events. Even if students have attended a previous stunting clinic they are required to attend every Fall session.
Our programs are designed to ensure the highest level of safety for our students. Parents, we know that you want the highest level of safety for your student, and that you value the safety precautions we are taking, by implementing this annual stunting clinic for our students. We appreciate your support!

If you are absolutely unable to attend this clinic, then you will be required to attend a “pre-parade” clinic to be held one hour prior to parade meeting time at the parade site. However, discounted package prices on uniforms will not be available and availability of all sizes cannot be guaranteed.
IMPORTANT
Due to safety reasons and restrictions by parade committees, 4-year-old students will not be allowed to participate in parades. However, students age 4 are welcome to participate in our Cheer Showcase scheduled for December 1st & 2nd! You may purchase your cheer uniform and will receive more information for the event at class. The safety of our younger children comes first!

FALL 2008 HIP HOP URBAN JAM SHOWCASE

ALL Young Champions Hip-Hop students are invited to participate in the Saturday Urban Jam Showcase event. Students will compete with their team against other teams of the same basic age and skill level. Each team will perform a hip-hop dance routine that they have learned at class. Students will be judged on their overall performance, style, personality and execution. There will be a practice with your coach prior to the start of the Showcase. All participants will receive a large trophy and will be competing for 1st, 2nd, and 3
